SPREAD THE WORD FOR AVERY

A week or so ago a friend of mine shared a story about a little girl who inherited a genetic disease at birth called SMA.  For those of you not aware, SMA stands for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.  It is among a top killer in infants and not many people know about this disease.  It is also incurable at this point in time because there hasn't been a lot of research about it.  I'm touched every day that I hear about Avery's journey to enjoy her life here on earth.  She is such a brave little girl and she has been blessed with parents, grandparents, other family and friends who are a huge optimistic support in her life.

They are sharing their story through the eyes of Avery.  Her goal is to accomplish as many items on her bucket list as possible, while continuing to spread the word so that others may become more aware about SMA and getting tested if you are considering becoming a parent.  It is possible to conceive a child without inheriting this disease if you are a carrier of the gene.  The key is testing the potential parents to find out in advance, so another child is not affected by SMA.

Thank you, Avery for sharing your story with me.  You have forever touched my heart and will be in my prayers every day.  Although you are still a small little thing you have taught me a huge lesson.  Everyday, despite my own struggles in life and obstacles, I will strive to love more, not let the little things bother me,  laugh a lot, and enjoy life.  To all that read my blog, I hope that you can help me share this little baby's story and follow her journey as she lives.
