My Musical Gene Pool

For those of you that know me and my family, making and enjoying music is something that comes naturally to us. My mother was born into the Kershaw family, a family that comes from a strong (cajun) french background. Yes, that's right! Good ole' homecooked, mouth-watering, cajun food and toe-tappin, hip-shakin' sounds of Louisiana.

My grandfather, Pee Wee kershaw is known for his fiddle playin' and can work an accordian, without a doubt!!!

My great uncle is Doug Kershaw and is known as the Rajun Cajun. Known for his wild, animated, string breakin' fiddle playing...the man knows how to work a stage and if you've never heard the cajun sound or never quite liked it...your sure to have a change of heart after hearing his sound. I also had another great uncle (Rusty Kershaw, brother to Doug and Pee Wee) whose musical roots have traveled and played with the best of them. My Uncle Rusty (may he rest in peace) is no longer with us, but his memory lives on in our hearts. So it's naturally understandable that the musical genes would follow suit down the blood line.

My mother has a beautiful voice that she's used to share in churches that we've attended and listening to her while I was a child, is where I picked up my musical ear.

The men in our family have a nack for being able to play instruments just like my uncle Ray (my mom's oldest brother...he plays the drums) and my own personal brother has been playing trombone since grade school and has the gift of reading music and sharing his soulful, jazzy sound when he's rockin out with his fraternity and the well known "human jukebox" from Southern University where he's played in their band for the past 4 years.

It's no doubt that our family shares a passion for music, so it's no surprise that the Kershaw name along with other ancestoral family members of mine will continue to grace the world with our many talents. Currently my cousins, Tyler Kershaw (son of Doug Kershaw) and Kenny Borill (son of Rachel Curl and the late Glenn Borill) are living out their dream of making music and working the West coast in Hollywood.
